SUMMER YABUKITA OBSCURA – 75 Gms

Flying high in an airplane, looking down at clouds from up on high, reminiscing what they looked like from down below, Joni Mitchell introspected about love and life: “I’ve looked at them from both sides now, From up and down and still somehow, It’s their illusions I recall, I really don’t know them at all”.  Asking more from her words than to be carriers of mere disenchantment, she added melody – its mysterious ability to inspire feeling- a feeling of love and life and how we know them so well, yet how they always remain just beyond comprehension, just beyond understanding – Obscure.

Knowing the Yabukita only too well in the past, we must admit- Illusions about the Yabukita are all we recall. We could say it’s Spring Highland baked into Summer or the continuation of Summer Flaneur’s journey into the harsh highlands and we wouldn’t be wrong but that would undermine the Obscura’s dense and rather obscure expressions and improvisations of the Yabukita – Pepper dulled by Mulberries and the robust Musky Woodiness now acquiring a smooth Wine Barrel finish. Still rich and still dense – expressions true to its high elevation roots – the Obscura with its wine barrel woodiness and aroma of Charred Tomato yields a slightly burnt, dark chocolate aftertaste.  Hard to discern, densely packed notes give rise to a strange unexpected simplicity – simplicity lost when detailed. With vivid reminders of the Indian Jamun fruit and Berries obscuring the Pepper and indiscernible Spices, it is the most unexpected, improvised and obscure expression of the Yabukita.
